Styling tips.

Styling tips.

So you have some lovely clothes but not quite sure how to wear them? Or what goes with what. You pop them on and something is just not quite right?

Well, you are in the right place! The Styling Tips below will have you rocking that wardrobe in a jiffy.

The 3 piece rule.

Kicking off my styling tips with my favorite styling point.

The 3 piece rule is simple. Your outfit should contain 3 items.

For example, take a simple jeans and T-shirt combo. This outfit is ok, presentable even. However, add a Blazer and your outfit is now more than ok. It is pulled together. Elevated.

Or you may be planning on wearing a dress and a Blazer or jacket. Add a belt. Cinches you in at the waist and again pulls the whole look together.

Super simple yet super effective.

Organise your wardrobe.

I know, I bang on about this a lot, but with good reason.

You cannot create the perfect outfit if your wardrobe is an overflowing, cluttered mess as you cannot even see what you own!

The tidier and organised your wardrobe is, the easier picking an outfit is.

If you need any help or tips on organising your wardrobe take a look at this.

Balance

Oversized everything is a huge trend right now and one I am personally loving. An Oversized shirt or a pair of boyfriend Jeans. So many exciting combinations. However, I would not wear these two items together, at the same time.

If you are wearing baggy/oversized on your top half, wear tight/ slim-fitting on your bottom half and vice-versa.

It is all about creating balance and the right silhouette.

Tailoring.

Clothing that fits your body perfectly is a huge part of looking stylish.

I personally have the world’s skinniest legs. They literally hang down like two pieces of string from my a*s. Therefore I struggle to find trousers that get said a*s in whilst also gently skimming my thighs.

However, this is where my local tailors help.

Tailoring your clothes to fit your body shape makes a world of difference to how that item looks on you. In addition, creates a much more flattering finish.

Pick styles that work for your body shape.

Not only do I have skinny legs, but I also have short legs too. Therefore I stick to high-waisted styles as they give the illusion of a longer leg.

If you are slim or have more of an athlete figure, try wearing a belt at the waist to cinch you in and create the illusion of curves.

Alternatively, if you are more of a fuller figure, accentuate your assets which will draw the eye away from the bits you are not so Keen on.

The changing room is your friend.

This is a difficult one for me. Who has the time to try anything on?

However, this is one of my greatest downfalls and often results in me dragging my disgruntled kids back to the shop to return everything.

Just because the item looks great on the hanger does not necessarily mean it will look great on you!

Try to make sure you have the time to try things on before you buy.

You may like the item but does it suit you? Does it flatter you? Do you feel good in it? Make sure you get a resounding yes to these questions before you make the purchase.

Colours.

Pick colours that suit your skin tone. Similarly to make-up.

The general rule is as follows:

  • Skin tone.

If you have pink or Rosy undertones to your skin, You have a cool skin tone. Clothing with Blue or Grey undertones are your friends.

If you have a golden undertone to your skin, You have a warm skin tone. Clothing with yellow, gold and brown undertones will suit you.

Top tip: Dont know your skin undertone? Look at the inside of your wrist. Is it a bit pink with blue veins? If the answer is yes, you have a cool undertone. If it is more golden and has Green-ish veins, you have a warm undertone.

Accessorise.

As far as I am concerned, your outfit is not complete until you have accessorised.

It is one of the most important styling tips.

Accessories have the ability to elevate an outfit. I feel so much more put together, styled and confident when I include accessories in my outfit.

So much so that if I am in a hurry and forget to put my jewelry on before I leave the house I feel NAKED all day.

In conclusion.

Just a few simple tweaks could have a massive impact on not only your wardrobe but your confidence too.
